℟.

And with thy spirit.

Antiphon.

Let us come before his presence with thanksgiving; and make a joyful noise to him with psalms.

Psalm 94.

C

ome let us praise the Lord with joy: * let us joyfully sing to God our saviour.
Let us come before his presence with thanksgiving; * and make a joyful noise to him with psalms.
For the Lord is a great God, * and a great King above all gods.
For in his hand are all the ends of the earth: * and the heights of the mountains are his.
For the sea is his, and he made it: * and his hands formed the dry land.
Come let us adore and fall down: * and weep before the Lord that made us.
For he is the Lord our God: * and we are the people of his pasture and the sheep of his hand.
Today if you shall hear his voice, harden not your hearts: as in the provocation, * according to the day of temptation in the wilderness.
Where your fathers tempted me, * they proved me, and saw my works.
Forty years long was I offended with that generation, * and I said: These always err in heart.
And these men * have not known my ways.
So I swore in my wrath * that they shall not enter into my rest.
Glory and honor be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, for ever and ever. Amen.

Psalmus 118. ZAY.

M

eménto verbi tui servo tuo, * in quo mihi spem dedísti, Dómine.
Hæc me consoláta est in humilitáte mea: * quia elóquium tuum vivificávit me.
Supérbi iníque agébant usquequáque: * a lege autem tua non declinábi.
Memor fui judiciórum tuórum a sæculo, Dómine: * et delectátus sum.
Tædium ténuit me pro peccatóribus, * derelinquéntibus legem tuam.
Cantábiles erant mihi justificatiónes tuæ, * in loco incolátus mei.
Amen.

Psalmus 118. ZAI.

B

e thou mindful of thy word to thy servant, * in which thou hast given me hope.
This hath comforted me in my humiliation: * because thy word hath enlivened me.
The proud did iniquitously altogether: * but I declined not from thy law.
I remembered, O Lord, thy judgments of old: * and I was comforted.
A fainting hath taken hold of me, * because of the wicked that forsake thy law.
Thy justifications were the subject of my song, * in the place of my pilgrimage.
In the night I have remembered thy name, O Lord: * and have kept thy law.
This happened to me: * because I sought after thy justifications.
Glory and honor be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, for ever and ever. Amen.

Psalmus 118. HETH.

P

Misericórdia tua, Dómine, plena est terra: * justificatiónes tuas doce me.
Glória, et honor Patri, et Fílio, et Spirítui Sancto in sæcula sæculórum. Amen.

Psalm 118. HETH.

O

Lord, my portion, * I have said, I would keep thy law.
I entreated thy face with all my heart.
Have mercy on me according to thy word, I have thought on my ways: * and turned my feet unto thy testimonies.
I am ready, and am not troubled: * that I may keep thy commandments.
The cords of the wicked have encompassed me: * but I have not forgotten thy law.
I rose at midnight to give praise to thee; * for the judgments of thy justification.
I am a partaker with all them that fear thee, * and that keep thy commandments.
The earth, O Lord, is full of thy mercy: * teach me thy justifications.
Glory and honor be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, for ever and ever. Amen.

Psalmus 118. TETH.

J

ucunditátem fecísti cum servo tuo, Dómine, * secúndum verbum tuum.
Bonitátem, et disciplínam, et sciéntiam doce me: * quia mandátis tuis crédidi.
Priúsquam humiliárer, ego delíqui: * proptérea elóquium tuum custodíbi.
Bonus es, Dómine: * et in bonitáte tua doce me justificatiónes tuas.
Amen.

Psalm 118. TETH.

T

hou hast done well with thy servant, O Lord, * according to thy word.
Teach me goodness and discipline and knowledge; * for I have believed thy commandments.
Before I was humbled I offended; * therefore have I kept thy word.
Thou art good; * and in thy goodness teach me thy justifications.
The iniquity of the proud hath been multiplied over me: * but I will seek thy commandments with my whole heart.
Their heart is curdled like milk: * but I have meditated on thy law.
It is good for me that thou hast humbled me, * that I may learn thy justifications.
The law of thy mouth is good to me, * above thousands of gold and silver.
Glory and honor be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, for ever and ever. Amen.

M

y son, The tongue of the wise adorneth knowledge: but the mouth of fools bubbleth out folly. The victims of the wicked are abominable to the Lord: the vows of the just are acceptable. The way of the wicked is an abomination to the Lord: he that followeth justice is beloved by him. Instruction is grievous to him that forsaketh the way of life: he that hateth reproof shall die. Hell and destruction are before the Lord: how much more the hearts of the children of men? A corrupt man loveth not one that reproveth him: nor will he go to the wise. A glad heart maketh a cheerful countenance: but by grief of mind the spirit is cast down. The heart of the wise seeketh instruction: and the mouth of fools feedeth on foolishness. All the days of the poor are evil: a secure mind is like a continual feast. Better is a little with the fear of the Lord, than great treasures without content, It is better to be invited to herbs with love, than to a fatted calf with hatred. A passionate man stirreth up strifes: he that is patient appeaseth those that are stirred up. The way of the slothful is as a hedge of thorns; the way of the just is without offence.

Thou wilt not be able to destroy them altogether: lest perhaps the beasts of the earth should increase upon thee. But the Lord thy God shall deliver them in thy sight: and shall slay them until they be utterly destroyed. And he shall deliver their kings into thy hands, and thou shalt destroy their names from under Heaven: no man shall be able to resist thee, until thou destroy them. Their graven things thou shalt burn with fire: thou shalt not covet the silver and gold of which they are made, neither shalt thou take to thee any thing thereof, lest thou offend, because it is an abomination to the Lord thy God. Neither shalt thou bring any thing of the idol into thy house, lest thou become an anathema, like it. Thou shalt detest it as dung, and shalt utterly abhor it as uncleanness and filth, because it is an anathema.

A

ll the commandments, that I command thee this day, take great care to observe: that you may live, and be multiplied, and going in may possess the land, for which the Lord swore to your fathers. And thou shalt remember all the way through which the Lord thy God hath brought thee for forty years through the desert, to afflict thee and to prove thee, and that the things that were in thy heart might be made known, whether thou wouldst keep his commandments or no. He afflicted thee with want, and gave thee manna for thy food, which neither thou nor thy fathers knew: to shew that not in bread alone doth man live, but in every word that proceedeth from the mouth of God.

rethren, Be ye therefore followers of God, as most dear children; And walk in love, as Christ also hath loved us, and hath delivered himself for us, an oblation and a sacrifice to God for an odour of sweetness. But fornication, and all uncleanness, or covetousness, let it not so much as be named among you, as becometh saints: Or obscenity, or foolish talking, or scurrility, which is to no purpose; but rather giving of thanks. For know you this and understand, that no fornicator, or unclean, or covetous person (which is a serving of idols), hath inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God. Let no man deceive you with vain words. For because of these things cometh the anger of God upon the children of unbelief. Be ye not therefore partakers with them. For you were heretofore darkness, but now light in the Lord. Walk then as children of the light. For the fruit of the light is in all goodness, and justice, and truth; Proving what is well pleasing to God: And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them. For the things that are done by them in secret, it is a shame even to speak of. But all things that are reproved, are made manifest by the light; for all that is made manifest is light. Wherefore he saith: Rise thou that sleepest, and arise from the dead: and Christ shall enlighten thee.

Sing ye to the Lord and bless his name: * shew forth his salvation from day to day.
Declare his glory among the Gentiles: * his wonders among all people.
For the Lord is great, and exceedingly to be praised: * he is to be feared above all gods.
For all the gods of the Gentiles are devils: * but the Lord made the heavens.
Praise and beauty are before him: * holiness and majesty in his sanctuary.
Bring ye to the Lord, O ye kindreds of the Gentiles, bring ye to the Lord glory and honour: * bring to the Lord glory unto his name.
Bring up sacrifices, and come into his courts: * adore ye the Lord in his holy court.
Let all the earth be moved at his presence. * Say ye among the Gentiles, the Lord hath reigned.
For he hath corrected the world, which shall not be moved: * he will judge the people with justice.
Let the heavens rejoice, and let the earth be glad, let the sea be moved, and the fulness thereof: * the fields and all things that are in them shall be joyful.
Then shall all the trees of the woods rejoice before the face of the Lord, because he cometh: * because he cometh to judge the earth.
He shall judge the world with justice, * and the people with his truth.

Psalm with Antiphons

{From the Feast}

P.

The Lord be always with you.

℟.

And with thy spirit.

Antiphon 2.

Serve ye the Lord your God: and do not adore strange gods; for the Lord is holy. Rejoice to God, our helper: sing aloud to the God of Jacob.

Psalm 80.

R

ejoice to God, our helper: * sing aloud to the God of Jacob.
Take a psalm, and bring hither the timbrel: * the pleasant psaltery with the harp.
Blow up the trumpet on the new moon, on the noted day of your solemnity: * for it is a commandment in Israel, and a judgment to the God of Jacob.
He ordained it for a testimony in Joseph, when he came out of the land of Egypt: * he heard a tongue which he knew not.
He removed his back from the burdens: * his hands had served in baskets.
Thou calledst upon me in affliction, and I delivered thee: * I heard thee in the secret place of tempest: I proved thee at the waters of contradiction.
Hear, O my people, * and I will testify to thee, Israel.
O Israel, if thou wilt hearken to me; there shall be no new god in thee: * neither shalt thou adore a strange god.
For I am the Lord thy God, who brought thee out of the land of Egypt: * open thy mouth wide, and I will fill it.
But my people heard not my voice: * and Israel hearkened not to me.
So I let them go according to the desires of their heart: * they shall walk in their own inventions.
If my people had heard me: if Israel had walked in my ways: * I should soon have humbled their enemies, and laid my hand on them that troubled them.
The enemies of the Lord have lied to him: * and their time shall be for ever.
And he fed them with the fat of wheat, * and filled them with honey out of the rock.
Glory and honor be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, for ever and ever. Amen.

Antiphon 2.

Serve ye the Lord your God: and do not adore strange gods; for the Lord is holy. Rejoice to God, our helper: sing aloud to the God of Jacob.

Prayer after Psalm

{From the Feast}

P.

The Lord be always with you.

℟.

And with thy spirit.

T

o Thee, our helper, O Lord, with the exultation of faith and hope, we pray, that our petition, poured out in tribulation, may come near to Thy ears, and reveal the causes of our necessities: for Thy goodness is always present to the prayers of each one, that Thou mayest deliver us: and grant us, being rescued, the ardor of desire to reach unto Thee, and to devoutly cry out in unison the unity of the triune majesty; that, always dedicated to Thy praises, having followed the path of Thy justifications, we may, we beseech Thee, acquire the ornaments of exultation, and the remedies of hope, and obtain the crown of faith.

℟.

Amen.

P.

Through your mercy, O our God, who art blessed, and dost live, and govern all things, for ever and ever.

℟.

Amen.

Psalmus cum Antiphóna

{Ex Festo}

P.

Dóminus sit semper vobíscum.

℟.

Psalmus 48.

A

udíte hæc omnes gentes: * áuribus percípite, qui habitátis orbem.
Quique terrígenæ fílii hóminum: * simul in unum dives et pauper.
Os meum loquétur sapiéntiam: * et meditátio cordis mei prudéntiam.
Inclinábo ad similitúdinem aurem meam: * apériam in psaltério propositiónem meam.
Ut quid timébo in die mala? * iníquitas calcánei mei circúmdedit me.
Amen.

Psalm with Antiphons

{From the Feast}

P.

The Lord be always with you.

℟.

And with thy spirit.

Antiphon 3.

With your whole heart turn to God, and take away the strange gods from among you, and serve the Lord alone, and He will deliver you from the hand of your enemies. Hear these things, all ye nations: give ear, all ye inhabitants of the world.

Psalm 48.

H

ear these things, all ye nations: * give ear, all ye inhabitants of the world.
All you that are earthborn, and you sons of men: * both rich and poor together.
My mouth shall speak wisdom: * and the meditation of my heart understanding
I will incline my ear to a parable; * I will open my proposition on the psaltery.
Why shall I fear in the evil day? * the iniquity of my heel shall encompass me.
They that trust in their own strength, * and glory in the multitude of their riches,
No brother can redeem, nor shall man redeem: * he shall not give to God his ransom,
Nor the price of the redemption of his soul: * and shall labour for ever, and shall still live unto the end.
He shall not see destruction, when he shall see the wise dying: * the senseless and the fool shall perish together:
And they shall leave their riches to strangers: * and their sepulchres shall be their houses for ever.
Their dwelling places to all generations: * they have called their lands by their names.
And man when he was in honour did not understand; * he is compared to senseless beasts, and is become like to them.
This way of theirs is a stumbling block to them: * and afterwards they shall delight in their mouth.
They are laid in hell like sheep: * death shall feed upon them.
And the just shall have dominion over them in the morning; * and their help shall decay in hell from their glory.
But God will redeem my soul from the hand of hell, * when he shall receive me.
Be not thou afraid, when a man shall be made rich, * and when the glory of his house shall be increased.
For when he shall die he shall take nothing away; * nor shall his glory descend with him.
For in his lifetime his soul will be blessed: * and he will praise thee when thou shalt do well to him.
He shall go in to the generations of his fathers: * and he shall never see light.
Man when he was in honour did not understand: * he hath been compared to senseless beasts, and made like to them.
Glory and honor be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, for ever and ever. Amen.
